Dr. Ben Maser
The patient’s best interest is truly at the heart of his clinical decisions, and he is never hesitant to consult with his colleagues if it means arriving at the best possible outcome for one of his patients.
“I’ve always been a team sports type person,” says Dr. Maser, who played water polo in high school and college. “I really like working with people at the same level to try to achieve a goal. I don’t need to be the one who got the win, as long as I’m contributing to the win.”
Collaborating and always putting the patient first are traits Dr. Maser believes he absorbed from his father, one of the practice’s founders.
Although he briefly considered another specialty in medical school, plastic surgery really drew his interest because of the great variety in the types of surgeries plastic surgeons get to do and because of how happy the profession made his father and now him. “There are so many different things to do within the field, every day is a little different,” he says.
His surgical interests include cosmetic surgery and reconstructive surgery of the face and breast. He is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is currently the head of the Altos Oaks Plastic Surgery.
Dr. Maser joined Altos Oaks Plastic Surgery in 1999. He grew up in Palo Alto and received his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley. He received his M.D. from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, and then moved to Seattle, Wash.
He received his training in general surgery at the University of Washington, followed by three years of residency in plastic surgery in the same institution.
He then spent one year at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) as a clinical instructor and fellow in plastic surgery. He is also a former member of the clinical faculty at the Stanford University Medical Center.
Dr. Maser is married and has two children. He is an avid swimmer and skier, and he enjoys a wide range of outdoor activities with his family.
