A Brazilian butt lift (BBL) uses fat from your own body to enhance the size and improve the shape of your buttocks. Because the “filler” is your body’s own fat, results from a BBL can last for several years.

It can take up to six months for results from a BBL to be fully realized. During this time, the care that you take of yourself will have a direct impact on both the appearance and the longevity of your results. While in our care, we will make sure you fully understand how to prepare for and recover from your Brazilian butt lift procedure to help ensure your entire experience is as rewarding as possible.

BBL Uses Your Body’s Own Fat

Woman Measuring Back Side | Brazilian Butt LiftAt Altos Oaks Plastic Surgery, we use advanced liposuction techniques to carefully remove fat cells from a preselected area of the body – typically the abdomen, low back, hips, thighs, or another area that may also benefit from sculpting – before purifying the fat cells in preparation for buttock augmentation. Once prepared, this solution is injected into targeted areas of the derriere to create ideal dimensions.

Unlike butt augmentation with implants, there are no foreign objects involved in BBL surgery, removing a potential obstacle to lasting results. Maintaining results will, however, be up to you. During your initial consultation with one of our board-certified plastic surgeons, we will discuss preparing for Brazilian butt lift surgery, along with steps you can take after your procedure to help maintain results for years to come.

Recovering from Buttock Augmentation

Recovery from a BBL takes about six weeks. For the first two, you will need to avoid both sitting and laying directly on your backside. Sleeping will need to be done on your side or stomach, and sitting will require a donut seat or pillow. The seat/pillow may need to be used for up to eight weeks in some cases.

Most Brazilian butt lift patients are able to resume light activity within seven days and to resume working within seven to ten. More advanced exercises will need to be avoided until recovery is complete – around week six to eight. You will return to our office during this time for follow up visits where we can assess your recovery and make personal recommendations to help protect your comfort and safety.

Your Role

In addition to following our pre and postoperative Brazilian butt lift advice, you will need to take steps to maintain your weight in order to preserve results. When fat is removed from your body through liposuction, it cannot come back, making those results more or less permanent. Some of the purified fat solution that is injected into your buttocks for BBL will be reabsorbed by the body, but most of it will stay in place, plumping, firming, and defining your backside for ten or more years.

To avoid weight fluctuations, make efforts towards healthy living. Try to eat foods that encourage well-being and avoid those that offer only empty calories. Be sure to exercise as well. Daily is ideal, but three to four times a week is often all it takes to maintain results – both from liposuction and Brazilian butt lift – for many years. If you struggle with these things, consider working with a nutritionist and personal trainer until you have developed habits that are sustainable and enjoyable to you.
