brow liftAs you start aging, some of the first areas to show signs are the forehead and brow. One way to address these common signs of aging is with a brow lift. Sometimes referred to as a forehead lift, a brow lift surgically raises the brows to remove frown lines and wrinkles, improving the appearance up the upper eyelid and brow line. Here is what you should know.

What a Brow Lift Entails

Brow lift surgery helps tighten the muscles in your forehead and removes excess skin and fat. Forehead lifts can also ease some deep furrows between your eyes and may correct sagging brows. During your surgery, you will be provided local anesthesia rather than general sedation. With local anesthesia, you are awake but relaxed.

An incision will be made around the brow line. The specific type of incision and location will be determined by the type of procedure you have performed. After the procedure, you may feel numbness and discomfort around the incision, though this is temporary. Your cheeks and eyes may also swell and bruise, and you may feel numbness on the top of your scalp. As the incision heals, you may feel itchy instead of numbness.

What To Discuss With Your Surgeon

Before you make the decision to go ahead with brow lift surgery, you should discuss the procedure with your surgeon. The goal of a forehead lift is to smooth wrinkling and tighten excess loose skin. During your consultation, your surgeon will discuss various factors that can impact the results you receive through surgery. These factors include:

  • Your skin type
  • Your skin’s elasticity
  • Your ethnic background
  • Your age
  • Your individual healing rate
  • Realistic outcomes for the surgery

Types of Brow Lifts

After analyzing your face for lost volume, pulling, and sagging, your surgeon can recommend one of the two methods of brow lifts.

  • Coronal Brow Lift: The coronal brow lift, or classic lift, uses a cut that goes across the top of your forehead, starting at one ear and ending at the other. The incision is usually at the hairline. Once the incision is made, the surgeon can lift the skin off the forehead to remove excess tissue and fat. If necessary, the surgeon can realign the muscles and place the eyebrows higher on your forehead. Your surgeon also removes any excess skin.
  • Endoscopic Brow Lift: The endoscopic brow lift is a minimally invasive procedure that uses small incisions hidden behind your hairline. During surgery, your surgeon uses an endoscope to gently lift the brow tissue and smooth the skin.
