Sagging skin on the face and neck is a common consequence of aging. There are several over-the-counter solutions for these issues, including creams, serums, and ointments that work to varying degrees, but even the daily use of topical products can only do so much. Over time, everyone’s skin loses volume and lift.

Facelift tape is a beauty product that some people turn to when sagging skin on the face and neck becomes a more irritating concern. Exactly what it sounds like, with facelift tape, excess facial and neck skin is pulled taught before being taped – typically behind the ears – in order to produce a less wrinkled and sagging facial appearance.

Does this method work? Kind of. Is it comfortable? Not really. Is it sustainable? Not at all.

Facelift tape can produce an asymmetrical and distorted appearance, particularly around the lips. The product can limit facial movement, impact speech, and create an almost comically unnatural look. What’s more, facelift tape can come loose or fall off as the day progresses, threatening to undo the results at inconvenient or awkward moments. Even more concerning, constantly pulling your skin taught can have the opposite effect you desire. With repeated stretching, the skin may lose elasticity, highlighting skin laxity, wrinkles, and similar signs of aging.
